Name: Liz M.
Company Title: Corporate Systems Advisor
Years at CTG: 14
Hometown: I grew up in Syracuse, NY.
Current City: Canastota, NY
Favorite Song Right Now: I don’t really have a favorite. I listen to a variety of songs across a variety of genres.
Favorite thing to do outside of work: I love to read, hike, bike, play golf, travel, and spend time with my family.
I wake up at 5:30 a.m. and start my day with a workout. After that, I get myself ready and caffeinated, then move on to getting my nine-year-old daughter up and ready for school.
I typically start working around 8:00 a.m. The first thing I do is go through my email. I try to take care of any messages that came in after I left the previous day so that by the time those folks are in the office, their requests are taken care of if possible.
The projects I work on vary, and I wouldn’t say they are necessarily tied to the afternoon or any specific time of day. I squeeze time in to work on projects whenever I can, however, I do have a standing meeting with Senior Corporate Applications Advisor Sue K. twice a week so we can ensure we have time to work on whatever major projects we have going on. The part of my day not spent on these bigger projects is spent handling emails that come in from various people within CTG requesting all kinds of different things related to Taleo, our HR and Recruiting platform. Taleo is a web-based applicant tracking system used primarily by CTG’s Recruiting teams to fill requisitions and track recruiting activity. We also use the Taleo Onboarding system to complete and track new hire paperwork.
After work, I prepare dinner and eat with my family. If my daughter needs help with her homework, we’ll do that right after dinner. Once her homework is finished, we spend some time playing together before it’s her bedtime. After she’s all settled in bed, my husband and I relax by watching some TV or doing puzzles, which is something we got back into during the pandemic stay-at-home orders. Also, I always make sure to spend some time at night reading a good book to clear my mind before bed.
I like that my position allows me to help others in CTG, which is usually the Recruiting and HR teams, and sometimes even the Sales team. Working on things that I know are going to help people do their job a little better or easier is satisfying. Though I have been with CTG for 14 years, I have been in my current role for 3 years. Since then, I have learned the ins and outs of Taleo configuration, how to build reports and track activities in Oracle Business Intelligence (OBI), and so much more. I still feel like I am learning something new every day! As for career advice, I say find something you enjoy doing. We spend so much of our day at work, so I think that truly liking what you do is a very important key to being happy, both in and out of work.
